Fall is considered one of the best times to visit Yosemite if you’re looking to enjoy the park when it is quiet, peaceful, and exceptionally beautiful.
Your trip to Yosemite this fall may well be one of your favorite visits to the park ever if you take the time to plan your vacation carefully, considering the best things to do and see during the fall months. Bear in mind that not all of your favorite summer activities will be available, but you'll have a number of opportunities during Yosemite Fall that can’t be experienced any other time of year. Fall in Yosemite is a great time to take in the park as well as the vibrant colors of the season.
While most of the park's trees are evergreens, Yosemite also has a wide variety of deciduous trees that each take on their own unique shade during the fall months. Be sure to pack your camera on your Yosemite trip to capture the yellows, golds, purples, reds, and pinks that will light up the area during this special season. You’ll also be able to see a great deal of wildlife scampering about the park, especially near creeks and rivers. This is because as the summer crowds subside, Yosemite’s wildlife becomes more courageous and tends to step out into the open.
One great way to enjoy the wildlife and changing foliage is to take a photography tour. These tours are available through the park, as are bus tours, open air tram tours, and moonlight tours. There are also some special annual activities that only happen during fall in Yosemite. For example, you can enjoy Vintner’s Holidays in the Ahwahnee Dining Room from early November to early December. This celebration of food and drink includes seminars and discussions as well as wine tastings from local vineyards and a five course dinner at the end of each day. Advance reservations are required for this event, so be sure to reserve your tickets right away.
Another sight that can only be seen during Yosemite Fall is the Leonid Meteor shower. These showers usually occur in mid-November and typically feature 10 to 20 meteors falling per hour. In order to enjoy this natural show at its best, try to plan your trip around the lunar calendar when the sky will be darkest and clearest. Whatever you choose to do on your trip to Yosemite this fall, make your reservations with Scenic Wonders.
