Yosemite National Park Hosting Nations Heroes
Yosemite National Park Hosted Nation’ s Heroes
Dear Friends
I greet you from Yosemite
Yosemite National Park hosted some of the nation’s heroes from May 27 - June 2, 2016.
The Sheep Dog Assistance Impact (SDIA) sent a group of about 60 men and women, many of whom are disabled combat veterans, to Yosemite National Park on this Memorial Day weekend. The group hiked, climbed and generally enjoyed the Park on their own. The group, camped in Yellow Pine areas "C" and "D" did assigned volunteer work. Many people stopped by and thanked the veterans and first responders!
Yosemite Hospitality provided a tram tour on Wednesday June 1st at 4 PM. Veteran Park Ranger Sheree Peshlakai lead a guided interpretive talk for the group!
A bit about these heroes from their website, http://sheepdogia.org:
"Sheep Dog Impact Assistance (SDIA) is a non-profit organization that serves the needs of the men and women serving in our military, law enforcement, fire & rescue and EMS services – a community of people we call “Sheep Dogs.” Founded in 2010, Sheep Dog Impact Assistance (SDIA) is a non-profit organization made up of military and first responders – society’s protectors, our “Sheep Dogs” – and volunteers. We exist to engage, assist and empower our Membership and fellow Sheep Dogs with continued service opportunities and provide the camaraderie that may be missing after a shift or tour of duty ends. Our national office is located in Rogers, Arkansas. We currently have 17 chapters and teams across the US, one in Canada, and more than 4,000 members, volunteers and supporters nationwide.”
