Yosemite Ice Skating at Curry Village
It’s that time of year again: the season to don ice skates and weave some figure-eights in the shadow of Half Dome!
Yosemite National Park’s Curry Village Ice Rink is now open for the winter through the beginning of March. The outdoor rink offers some of the country’s most memorable ice-skating given its location—and the perfect all-ages pastime on a crisp Yosemite day.
The Basics
The Curry Village Ice Rink has quite the venerable history: Its first incarnation came to life in 1928 as a parking lot flooded for recreation by the Yosemite Winter Club. Ever since, the rink—now a little more official—has been a beloved fixture of Yosemite Valley’s wintertime scene.
It’s open on weekdays from 3:30 to 6 p.m. and again from 7 to 9:30 p.m. (and from noon to 2:30 p.m. for holiday sessions). On weekends, you have more options: In addition to the afternoon and evening timeslots, the rink’s available between 8:30 and 11 a.m. and noon to 2:30 p.m. Current prices are $10 for adults and $9.50 for children, with additional fees for renting skates.
Fireside Fun
One of the Curry Village Ice Rink’s most enjoyable pleasures lies off the rink itself. Next to the skating there’s an expansive fire pit lined with benches so you can watch the on-ice antics while warming up with a hot beverage (for sale, along with snacks, at the rink). This is also the ideal spot for another time-honored outdoor tradition: s’more-making. Savor views stretching to Glacier Point and Half Dome while you toast your marshmallows.
If you’re lucky enough to be staying at a Scenic Wonders cabin in the winter, don’t miss the Curry Village Ice Rink—just one more component of the endless fun you can have at this special time of year in bold and beautiful Yosemite.
