Where to Cycle in Yosemite Valley

There are better than 12 miles of paved bike routes in the world-famous, glacially sculpted drainage, and they offer a premier means of exploring the sights without stressing over traffic.

Renting

Between early spring and autumn, you can rent bikes right in Yosemite National Park. There are two locations providing two-wheeled transport from 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. every day: the Yosemite Lodge at the Falls and Curry Village. Traditional, tandem, children’s, and hand-crank bicycles are available.

Routes

You’ve got plenty of options for afternoon or daylong bicycle excursions in the valley. One excellent foray is that from Curry Village Recreation Center to Mirror Lake, which actually is a combo package: You bike to Tenaya Creek, then park it at a designated area and hike the rest of the way in to this popular swimming hole. Really, though, simply tooling around the valley and taking in its epic vistas make for an unforgettable adventure. The valley-floor bike paths are well-paved and mostly level aside from a few gentle waves, so the routes are suitable for all-ages—and allow you to concentrate mostly on your incredible surroundings.

Rules of the Road

Yosemite biking is safe and easy, but there are a few key things to remember. First and foremost, wear a helmet! (The Park Service requires those 18 and under to have one.) Don’t forget proper hydration, either. Come hit up the bike paths in Yosemite Valley: You won't find a grander backdrop for a little fresh air and exercise.
