The Badger Pass Area for Snow Tubing
Badger Pass Ski Area is one of the real epicenters of outdoor recreation in Yosemite National Park, and never more so than in wintertime.
Downhill and cross-country skiers, snowboarders, and snowshoers all frequent the facility and its vicinity, reveling in the exhilarating slopes and miles of quiet backcountry trails.
In terms of sheer outrageous enjoyment, there’s another topnotch Badger Pass attraction for kids—and for kids-at-heart. There’s a special designated area for snow tubing (as well as sledding), so the whole family can safely spin and surf downslope!
At present, a two-hour session on rentable inner tubes (available in the morning and afternoon) costs $17 per person. As you head uphill for another wild descent, you’ll have to keep pinching yourself to realize this irresistible family-friendly merrymaking is all happening inside one of the world’s most beloved national parks.
Scenic Wonders to Badger Pass
Yosemite West, the woodsy enclave hosting the Scenic Wonders vacation rentals, is the nearest community to the Badger Pass Ski Area, so when you stay at one of our cabins you’re perfectly situated to access the slopes. It’s a roughly seven-mile drive up Glacier Point Road, which is plowed as far as Badger Pass during the ski season.
Keeping Tabs on Snow-Tubing Conditions at Badger Pass
The Badger Pass Ski Area is slated to open on December 13, 2013, and has already received some heaps of early-season Sierra Nevada snow. To keep tabs on the conditions for snow tubing (or any of the other snow sports), check out the ski area’s daily conditions report or its Facebook page.
Tubing down a Sierra mountainside all together, then warming up in a deep-woods Scenic Wonders cabin just down the road—is there any better way to celebrate a postcard-perfect Yosemite winter’s day?
