7 Gorgeous Photos of Yosemite That Will Make You Giddy With Excitement
“A picture’s worth a thousand words.”
That old adage isn’t a tired one when it comes to Yosemite National Park. The sheer scale and exquisite natural arrangement of the scenery here is impossible to fully convey through language. A photograph, too, doesn’t entirely translate the magic of the Sierra Nevada—you have to experience it firsthand for that—but it can capture some of it.
Here are seven outstanding photos of Yosemite that we’re sure will convince you to see this grandeur for yourself!
Photos of Yosemite:
(1) How about this wintry view of Yosemite Falls, taken in February from outside the historic Ahwahnee Hotel? The sunrise on snow-patched granite cliffs is one of the park’s unforgettable spectacles.
(2) Here’s an image of Yosemite woods beautifully alive with color. The Sierra Nevada mixed-conifer forests are among the most diverse and visually stunning on the planet. (3) This picture depicts a handsomely furred coyote contemplating a crossing of the great Merced River. Many West Coast Indian tribes hailed this wily omnivore—common in the park—as a Trickster hero. (4) Here’s another spectacular waterfall/snow scene: Little Yosemite Fall in November. The atmosphere of Yosemite’s famous cataracts changes from hour to hour and season to season. (5) The power and majesty of Half Dome—perhaps Yosemite’s quintessential landmark—are undimmed no matter how many times you see it, in person or in photos of Yosemite. This astounding wintertime shot of the monolith in alpenglow is almost otherworldly. (6) Among the most easily seen large mammals in Yosemite is the black-tailed deer—shown here staring down the photographer. (7) Check out this sublime shot of another of Yosemite’s great waterfalls, Bridalveil Fall, here with an icy chute. Let’s give credit to these photographers for their artistic and technical prowess—and let’s honor the magnificent landscape that makes this sort of transcendent imagery a fixture of daily life in Yosemite!
